Experimental Study of the Aerodynamic Interaction between Side-by-Side Propellers in eVTOL Airplane Mode through Stereoscopic Particle Image Velocimetry

Side-by-side propellers characterise the architecture of most new electric aircraft (eVTOLs) designed in recent years for urban air mobility. The aerodynamic interaction between side-by-side represents one key phenomena that flow field and performance these novel configurations. present article describes main results a wind tunnel campaign aimed to investigate features this interaction, with particular application cruise flight conditions eVTOLs. With aim, stereo particle image velocimetry (PIV) measurements were performed wake two co-rotating propeller models configuration. three-dimensional surveys provided detailed insights into physics interacting propellers, focus on interactional effects trajectory tip vortices topology at different advance ratios by reproducing moderate fast speed eVTOLs areas.
